About

The Pub

Welcome to The White Horse, a community-driven pub in the heart of Thelnetham, owned and operated by Ikigai Farm Limited.

Our journey began in 2021 when Ikigai Farm purchased horticultural land in Blo Norton with a commitment to sustainable farming practices that prioritize biodiversity, soil health, and local food production. In March 2024 we acquired The White Horse with the help of local shareholders and a grant from the Community Ownership Fund with a vision to create something more than just a pub – a vibrant community hub that supports local farmers, artisans, and residents.

At The White Horse, we’re passionate about fostering connections between the land and the community. Our pub offers locally sourced food, celebrates regional produce, and provides a welcoming space for people to gather, share, and enjoy. From farmer’s markets to cultural events, we’ve become a focal point for the community, where local food and crafts are at the heart of everything we do.

Rooted in sustainability, we aim to reduce our environmental impact while supporting the local economy. By working with nearby farms and producers, we ensure that our food and products are not only fresh and of the highest quality but also environmentally responsible. Our approach merges modern hospitality with a commitment to social and ecological sustainability, creating a space that benefits everyone.

Join us at The White Horse for great food, warm company, and a true celebration of our local heritage. Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor, we invite you to be part of our community and experience all we have to offer!

When you like to join our Society, please click above and fill the form. Pub minimum invest is £50 but please consider to invest more. A dedicated new share issue will be published later this year when our plans for further building works are finalised.

MEETUP MONDAY

At Thelnetham White Horse, we host MeetUp Mondays, a community event designed to bring together residents from surrounding villages for friendly conversation over tea, coffee, and cakes. Held every Monday (except bank holidays), this initiative is part of the larger MeetUpMondays program, originally launched by the Rural Coffee Caravan in Suffolk.

The goal is to combat loneliness by offering a welcoming environment where people can make new friends and reconnect with familiar faces.

The event, hosted by local volunteers, has become a much-loved weekly gathering where attendees can enjoy refreshments and, more importantly, a sense of community.

Across Suffolk, venues like ours are joining the movement, contributing to its success in providing social engagement opportunities for rural areas. Guests leave feeling uplifted, helping to fill a social gap often felt on Mondays.

You can learn more about the broader MeetUpMondays initiative on their official website, and see how local venues like ours have become integral to reducing isolation for many.

May 2024

In May this year, the villagers of Blo Norton and Thelnetham hosted a joyful Maypole ceremony on iFarm land, which included lively performances from the Kenninghall Morris Dancers and a Lithuanian dance group and choir from King’s Lynn. At the festivities, local beer and cider were enjoyed by all, enhancing the community spirit. The Lithuanian choir’s moving performance, set against the backdrop of the Blo Norton and Thelnetham Fenlands, brought many to tears. The event concluded with a gathering at the White Horse Pub, where the celebration continued.
